The White family consists of Maurice, Geri, Verdine, Monte, Freddie and Ron. Their dad Verdine, Sr. and their mom have since passed away. They lived on 69th & Chappel in the South Shore area of Chicago.

The only original members I have seen around are Sherry Scott, who I run into on occasion and Yacov Ben Israel, who still plays. The rest I don't know about. Of course Wade Flemons passed away from cancer in 1993 at age 53.

Some great Chicago memories for me there, Mike. Thanks. I spent part year there ( often summers AND Christmas) from 1947 -1958, lived there from 1959-1966, and spent part year there again, 1967-1971. I loved my time in Chicago pretty much as much or better than any other time in my life. I loved Chicago Soul music (listened to WVON). Was a Cub and Sox fan since 1952, lived in South Chicago, but worked and hung out on The South Side. So-all in all a lot of great memories brought back from your photos! Thanks!

DVD,

'You might remember Nichelle as Lt. Uhura on the "Star Trek" '

The Geek in me was really insulted that you would imply that Lt. Uhuru needed a second reference.... till I realized that everyone here is not as, uh um, as 'experienced' as myself....lol. I'd Love to see that pic in color.

Again, excellent work.

Destruction, the photo was taken sometime in the late 1940s, so even though color existed, it was a bit expensive. Nichelle and my mom were in the same dance troupe at the time. Of course, she went on to bigger and better things such as "Porgy And Bess", "Star Trek", etc.

That was my number 1 track event...and Mr. Beamon was my hero....still is. Though Powell broke his record in 91 by 2 inches, it pales in comparison to Bob's breaking the previous record by a frickin 22 inches and then having the record stand for over 20 years.

I've always been a Craig Hodges fan...and I'm glad he got to show his stuff on the big stage during the All-Star Game as well as his two championship seasons.... that said, I will always remember this "exchange"

After he tied Larry Bird with 3 "Three point" contest championships, he made the following comment:

"Maybe Larry would like to have a personal shootout to settle this once and for all? What do you say Larry, you know where to find me"

to which Mr. Bird replied:

"Yeah.....the end of the bench" OUCH!! Gave new meaining to the word 'splinters'.

Randolph Street - 1963
Randolph Street looking west at Dearborn Street in 1963. To the right, the Woods Theater, the Greyhound bus station, Toffenetti's Restaurant and the Hotel Sherman have fallen to the wrecking ball. To the left, the Daley Center now stands.

Mike-

First, I have to say that you are a great-looking guy. Second, where is a picture of my man, guitar player, Phil Upchurch? And, third, there is a Chicago Uno Pizzaria not a mile from my place here in Sterling Hgts., MI. These pictures are great.
