He was originally from Pontotoc ,Mississippi ( no Chico Harris commentary needed) and until recently was the owner of George Harrison's rosewood Telecaster. Also ,he was one of The Shindogs , the house band on the 60's music TV program "Shindig!". http://www.mercurynews.com/bre akingnews/ci_11321069?nclick_c heck=1

LOS ANGELES"Singer -songwriter-producer Delaney Bramlett, who penned
classic rock songs such as "Let it Rain" and worked with musicians
George Harrison and Eric Clapton, has died. He was 69.
Bramlett died Saturday shortly before 5 a.m. at UCLA Ronald Reagan
Medical Center in Los Angeles as a result of complications from gall-
bladder surgery, his wife Susan Lanier-Bramlett said.

Born in Mississippi, Bramlett enjoyed a career in the music business
that spanned 50 years.

He is perhaps best known for standards such as "Superstar," co-written
with Leon Russell, which was recorded by Usher, Luther Vandross, Bette
Midler, The Carpenters and most recently, Sonic Youth, in a version
featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack of the movie "Juno."

He also co-wrote "Let it Rain" with British guitarist Clapton, who
also recorded it, and "Never Ending Song of Love," which was recorded
by more than 100 artists including Ray Charles, George Jones, Tammy
Wynette, Patty Loveless and Dwight Yoakam.

During his career, he performed, co-wrote or recorded with stars such
as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Dave Mason, Billy Preston,
the Everly Brothers and Mac Davis. He also produced artists including
Etta James and Elvin Bishop.

He recently released an album "A New Kind of Blues," on independent
label Magnolia Gold Records.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters: Michele Bramlett, Suzanne
Bramlett and Bekka Bramlett-Britt, a son Dylan Thomas, and a brother
John Bramlett. Services are pending.

I'm confused. All of my Carpenters albums & CDs credit Bonnie Bramlett for co-writing Superstar with Leon.

A great talent who made some dynamite records with former wife Bonnie Bramlett and could play one hell of a guitar.

Rock on, Delaney - and rest in peace.

I was looking for a YouTube video of "Only You Know and I Know", the Dave Mason song that Delaney and Bonnie did so well.

On this often recorded Delaney Bramlett penned tune, at least one of their "friends" (Steven Stills) takes part.

I remember them singing on After Midnight with Eric Clapton so sad to hear this. I was more familiar with Bonnie but I DO remember reading about them in the 60s

Delaney & Bonnie were a pretty solid duo. They recorded a lot of things in Muscle Shoals.

Their Never Ending Song Of Love made a nice showing on the charts.

I had forgotten that he was part of Shindig's house band.

I think she (Bonnie) was a heck of a singer, much more authentic than Joplin, who got all of the raves in the Sixties.

RIP Delaney Bramlett.

Their first Elektra album is one of my all-time favorites. Their band at the time included leon Russel, Rita Coolidge, Bobby Keys, Jim Price, Jim Keltner, Bobby Whitlock and Carl Radle. This was the first album I'd ever heard of any of them

Delaney Brameltt was a true gentleman. In 1969 while living in L.A., I worked for Mac Davis at Metric Music which was the publishing arm of Liberty/UA Records. Delaney was a good friend of Mac's and they wrote a ton of songs together. I really liked Bonnie and Delaney a lot...they took me out for dinner one night and we spent several hours in the restaurant (can't remember the name of it, but it was on LaBrea, across the street from Metric Music)talking about the "music business". Of course they did the talking, and I did the listening...they were awesome and I never forgot that evening. So sorry to hear of Delaney's death...R.I.P.

Great anecdote, Millie. Thanks for sharing you fond memory of Delaney Bramlett.

BTW - Since you worked for Mac Davis at Metric Music, I'm sure you have some great tales you could share here in the SDF. Mac is one of my favorite songwriters and I have his "Song Painter" album that contained "Memories" and "In The Ghetto".

I'll second Kev's request above...I grew up listening to Mac and still enjoy his music.

Best,

Mark
