Never seen her discussed here but I think Needles and Pins and When You Walk in the Room have a soulful edge, as her does her voice at times. Im wondering what others think. IMO. |

Not sure, but she did get some Northern soul turntable action with a couple of her singles from '67-'68, "Find Me Love" and her version of Bobby Womack's "What Is This". Best, Mark |

"What The World Needs Now Is Love" hit #40 on Billboard's R&B charts in '65. |

"Put a little love in your heart" was one such collaboration with Jimmy Holiday. |

Great call; Jackie is as real as it gets.. "When You Walk In the Room", her version, is one of the heaviest R&R records ever; all other versions are a joke.. Her version was a Top 10 hit in Detroit back in the day; why it wasn't a hit everywhere is one of those inexplicable mysteries, but give credit to Detroit... She had/has Soul... |

Great singer and underrated songwriter. Jackie had the goods then and now. Here she is with When You Walk Into The Room... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =mVCBSIn_1j0 To hitch-hike onto Marshall's point - I guess the rest of the world (outside of Detroit and a few other places) wasn't ready for a girl like Jackie to come across so fierce like she did on "Walk..." Record executive Lenny Waronker mentioned in an interview many years ago the time when he heard the test pressing of Jackie's "What The World Needs Now Is Love" at his father's office in 1965 (his Dad was Sy Waronker, co-founder/owner of Liberty Records). He and his friends were rendered speechless after hearing the song. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

"Come And Get Me," "So Long Johnny" and the early 60's tune, "Heaven Is Being With You", were also great songs by Ms. DeShannon. |

The first time I heard of Jackie DeShannon was on the Bob B. Soxx & the Blue Jeans LP "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" as a writer of "I Shook The World"with lead by Darlene Love and ofcourse Darlene tore it up. |

Despite her not having had any hits in the UK in the 60s, she was a great favourite of the kids in my class because of the photos taken of her when she was a Junior Miss United Nations. I liked her compositions with Sharon Sheeley. Dave Godin said many of the soul fans he knew had Jackie's records tucked at the back of their collections. |
