I remember them. Yvonne Gage was an early member of the group. The girl top right is Demetrice Henrae. I can't remember the other girls' names. |

First Love was a 4 girl group from Chi-Town whose members were Denise Austin, Lisa Hudson, Demetrice Henrae & Martha Jackson. I never saw any of their LPs & only have a few of their 12s". In 1980 they came out with a pretty nice dance cut called "Don't Say Goodnight", which charted R&B around Xmas & peaked at #67. My two favorite cuts of theirs is the funky 1982 jam, "It's A Mystery To Me" which charted in Jan 1983 & peaked at #68 R&B. I played that sucker like some people play Lotto... FREQUENTLY! My other favorite is their mid '80s ballad "Things Are Not The Same". I can't understand how that song missed charting & it should've charted pretty high. It was that good. What a great cut & I wish that we had heard more from these Chi-Town girls. |

Juice, that lineup you give is the ending lineup of the group (from around 1984), and is totally different than the original lineup. I have talked with some of the original members, but never set up an interview (hopefully will eventually). This group evolved out of the Soulettes on Dud Sound, who were a Marshall high school group and who were like the sister group to the Turbulations / Essence (they were on the same touring review and some of the members were sisters and wives of Essence members). Yvonne Gage was a member of the group as someone stated above, but I think she was never a member on any of the records. |

I believe Yvonne left before they were signed by Chicago International Records. I got to know Demetrice from other session work. |

Mike, I talked to Yvonne about this once and she pretty much said the same thing you are saying. But I think she told me she's not on any recording. They had their first record on Dakar before CIM, and I think she's not on that too. |

Boba Thanks for that info. It's much appreciated. It seems as though they bounced around a bit. They indeed released "Don't Say Goodnight" in 1980 on Dakar. My favorite "It's A Mystery To Me" was released in late '82 on Chicago International & 2 years later, the beautiful "Things Are Not The Same" was released on Mirage. I though that these young ladies had great potential & it's really a shame that they didn't get to do more. |

Wasn't there also a First Love on Houston International Records? Maybe a different group altogether? |

Michael, that is the same group (except that the lineup eventually changed to the one Juice listed) |
